In Loving Memory of Katelynn Kearns

I am reaching out to ask for support for the Kearns family, who are struggling to come to terms with another tragic loss of a family member.

Katelynn was a loving daughter to Barbara Kearns, a loving sister to her brothers Collin and Nick, and a loving Aunt to her nieces and nephew Cassidy, Caylee, and Cohen. Katelynn grew up playing competitive soccer and was an avid runner - recently running the Vancouver Sun Run in April 2023, finishing in 1 hour and 8 minutes (without any training)! She also joined a community soccer team. Katelynn was physically strong from working as a longshore woman with ILWU Local 502. She was a beautiful, kind-spirited, bubbly young woman with a contagious smile that could light an entire room.

Amongst all of her light, Katelynn struggled privately. These struggles began when her Dad, Brian Kearns, tragically passed away in October of 2005. She was only 13 years old.

She recently received treatment in Westminster House (an addiction recovery centre for youth girls and women recovering from addiction) from March 9th, 2023 to May 15th, 2023. She was accepted to Sage Health Centre and was awaiting to continue treatment on June 4th, 2023.

She was 70 days clean.

On May 18th, 2023, Katelynn tragically passed away due to accidental fentanyl poisoning. She now joins the opioid death crisis in Canada.

While Katelynn was struggling and in treatment, she was unable to work. Donations will go to cover a portion of funeral expenses. The remaining donations will be given as cash donations in her name to the Westminster House and Sage Health Centre. These are two recovery centres she felt very much supported by.
