In Loving Memory of Kyra Schweiker Schlosser

Hi, I’m Lorrie Schlosser. My sister, Lisa Clifford and I are helping our Brother, Jeff Schlosser fund raise in memory of his wife Kyra Schweiker Schlosser.

Our beautiful Kyra passed away after a 9-year battle with Parkinson’s disease on April 14, 2024 at home wrapped in peace and surrounded by her loving family.

Parkinson’s is a cruel disease but Kyra faced it with optimism. She met every test, every treatment, every surgery with hope. She and Jeff spent years before the diagnosis seeking specialists attempting to explain her condition. All the while the medical bills mounted, but they were ever steadfast. Along the way, she helped others understand the illness and pushed forward.

Kyra met Jeff in Flagstaff, AZ in 1994. It was love at first sight. Along their journey she finished her education, became a mother to Zoe and Max, made a home, started a Montessori school, became a spartan warrior, and painted her bright light on every person she ever met. Her joyous spirit and patient grace drew you in and challenged you to do things and think things you might never had otherwise. She was a force of nature. Endlessly proud of her children, her family, her friends, her community, and The Clarksburg Children's House A Montessori School—her life's work.

We all had a unique and special connection to Kyra. She was a proud West Virginian with an easy smile, sass, and wit. She gave love and perspective and didn't complain or expect anything in return. She didn’t talk about the overwhelming cost of having a long-term illness. You might not have even known about the appointments, special treatments, pharmaceuticals, surgeries, therapies, or the endless waiting and hoping. Parkinson’s is expensive and evil. She knew it. We all know it.

Jeff has been her devoted partner in this journey. Jeff, Zoe, and Max along with a team of special caregivers lovingly took care of Kyra at home until the end. Their caring and commitment is an example of true love.

Kyra fully believed that an environment that was interesting, beautiful, nurturing and rewarding, would inevitably affect all who would interact with it. How lucky are we to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.

Her legacy lives in her children, both her own precious Zoe and Max, and all of the little ones she guided along the way. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of many. Below are some of the comments about Kyra that have been shared with the family:

“Loved by so many”
“She had a contagious laugh.”
“She touched many lives”
“Oceans of love and sadness”
“Miss Kyra could speak to children in a way that was magical.”
“All who were fortunate enough to be close enough to be enveloped by her own shadow filled with love.”
“A lovely soul who let her light shine so brightly and now that same light will shine in all of the children she touched.”
“She supported and mentored other Parkinson’s patients even as she suffered.”
“The most beautiful soul I ever came across and am grateful to have known. She will be missed and remembered and will always be in our hearts.”
“Kyra was a joy, a free spirit, and a light that brightened each room she entered.”

Please join us in supporting Jeff, Zoe, and Max as they grieve this extraordinary woman. Your support will truly help them find a way forward.
