In Loving Memory of Luciana: Supporting the Donati Family

It is with deep sadness that we are mourning the sudden and tragic loss of Luciana Milella , beloved mother to Matteo, age 11, and Thomas, age 9, who passed away on Friday March 14, 2025 after a sudden and severe onset of acute leukemia while living overseas in Japan. We are heartbroken to have lost this kind, thoughtful, beautiful soul. Our hearts and prayers go out to her husband Valerio Donati and their boys.

Luciana’s whole world was her boys. As soon as the family made their big transition to live in Japan, she became heavily involved in the school PTA and Library Team. With her generous, kind, and gentle ways, Luciana quickly became a treasured and beloved member of her new community and a familiar face around the halls at school and at PTA events. Her focus was always on Matteo and Thomas, and she was so proud of how they were thriving in their new circumstances. She beamed when talking about how they were now teaching her English terms that she didn’t know. Even from her hospital bed, she was expressing concern about small details like whether they would be able to wear their school uniforms correctly, or whether they’d have their costumes ready for a school event. Her love of motherhood and deep commitment to her children was evident in the sweet, loving, happy boys that she was raising.

To lose her so soon after her hospitalization has deepened the shock and tragedy that has devastated the Donati family. She was a healthy mom and busy PTA member enjoying her new life in Japan just weeks ago. None of us could have imagined this tragic outcome.

È con profonda tristezza che piangiamo l'improvvisa e tragica perdita di Luciana Milella, amata madre di Matteo, 11 anni, e Thomas, 9 anni, deceduta venerdì 14 marzo 2025 in seguito a un'improvvisa e grave insorgenza di leucemia acuta mentre viveva all'estero in Giappone. Siamo affranti per aver perso questa anima gentile, premurosa e bella. I nostri cuori e le nostre preghiere vanno a suo marito Valerio Donati e ai loro ragazzi.

Il mondo di Luciana ruotava intorno ai suoi ragazzi. Non appena la famiglia si è trasferita in Giappone, Luciana si è impegnata a fondo nel PTA (Associazione dei genitori e insegnanti) della scuola e nel team della biblioteca. Con i suoi modi generosi, gentili e delicati, Luciana è diventata rapidamente un membro prezioso e amato della sua nuova comunità e un volto familiare nei corridoi della scuola e agli eventi del PTA. La sua attenzione era sempre rivolta a Matteo e Thomas, ed era così orgogliosa di come stessero prosperando nella loro nuova situazione. Era raggiante quando parlava del fatto che ora le insegnavano termini inglesi che lei non conosceva. Anche dal suo letto d'ospedale, si preoccupava di piccoli dettagli, come il fatto che sarebbero stati in grado di indossare correttamente le loro uniformi scolastiche o che avrebbero avuto i loro costumi pronti per un evento scolastico. Il suo amore per la maternità e il suo profondo impegno nei confronti dei figli erano e sono evidenti nei ragazzi dolci, affettuosi e felici che stava crescendo.

Perderla così presto dopo il ricovero in ospedale ha aggravato lo shock e la tragedia che ha devastato la famiglia Donati. Solo poche settimane fa era una mamma sana e un membro dell'Associazione genitori impegnati a godersi la sua nuova vita in Giappone. Nessuno di noi avrebbe potuto immaginare questo tragico esito.
