“You can’t keep a little bird by your side forever. Sometimes, the happiness of a little bird lies in flying freely in the sky.”

On February 3rd, 2024, Missy and Dan woke up to what appeared to be just a normal day. They sat at their kitchen table to have breakfast together. They planned their day and talked about the life changes ahead. They had been planning to move back to Texas for Dan’s job and were so excited to get back to be closer to family. Just 6 months prior they lost someone so special to them, their brother-in-law Pete, and wanted to be closer to Missy’s sister Becky, daughter Kelsey, and the rest of their family and friends. If you know Missy, she loved to have a set plan in place but unfortunately, they had some unfinished affairs they had to take care of before they could move, and it kept pushing the move date back. This bothered both Missy and Dan but Missy being the planner she was, was very bothered because she could not tell the family a date that they would be coming back. This led to them both getting anxious about it and Missy said, “let’s circle back to this later and go lay down for a minute.” Dan couldn’t have agreed more, and they both laid down for a quick nap. It didn’t seem to be as calming as Missy wanted so they decided to go outside and do some yard work together to see if that would help. Missy was working on repotting some tomatoes, flowers, bougainvillea’s, shrimp plants, night blooming jasmine, and hibiscus while Dan mowed the yard. After a little while, Dan saw something from the corner of his eye and looked over and saw Missy lying on their lanai floor. She was looking at him, waving for him to come over to her. He stopped the mower and ran over to her and when he approached her, she said “I’m not sure what happened, I just woke up here” Dan quickly realized that something was very wrong. She was sweating profusely, and he thought that maybe she had overheated and passed out. It was a beautiful day in Florida, about 76 degrees so it wasn’t common for her to be affected by the temperature outside. He picked her up and walked her into the house to their bedroom where he sat her down on the edge of the bed and said he would be right back with a cold rag and water. It was when he quickly returned to her, his life flashed before his eyes and he knew this was not normal and dialed 911. Dan stayed by her side the entire time doing everything the dispatcher told him to until EMS arrived. EMS worked on her and then rushed her to the hospital to continue to try and save her life. They worked for almost 2 hours because she was only 49 years young with so much life ahead. As Dan prayed, cried, curled in a ball hoping this was a nightmare, the doctors walked in to deliver the news.
On that day, the world lost a beautiful soul. ✝️

Now Dan and the entire family are left to mourn the loss of such a beautiful soul with so much to do to ensure she is properly laid to rest and celebrated. Dan will be moving back to Texas immediately to ensure he is with family and not alone during this nightmare he has to live.

Unfortunately Missy did not carry life insurance and the last thing we want for Dan and the family is to have to stress about any expenses. With so many unexpected expenses we kindly ask that if you have anything to donate to help ease the heartache for Dan during this time, just know it will be so appreciated by all. Dan and the family can’t thank you all enough for your kindness and generosity during a truly unimaginable time for all.
