Dear Family, friends, and close colleagues...
It is with an extremely heavy heart that we must share with you that our amazing mother Mrs. Betty Olayinka Akinkugbe had passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2020, after battling COVID virus infection. She was an incredibly strong woman and successfully fought hard to overcome the virus, but, unfortunately, her recovery was not successful due to complications in her respiratory system.
She lived a wonderful life as a faithful servant of GOD, a proud mother of 6, loving grandmother of 3 children, a wife, a sister, caregiver to the sick and disabled, and beloved friend to many. Many of you that were very close to her over the years know that she was a compassionate and caring woman who worked hard and tirelessly to support and protect her children, her family, friends, and the churches she was associated with. She lived a life connected to so many people across the world either as a mother to some that weren't her children; a counselor to others that needed an ear and advice; and a caring nurse and comforter to the ill and disabled.
As a front line essential nurse and nursing assistant during this pandemic, Mrs. Betty Olayinka Akinkugbe was dedicated to helping patients recover. Taking care of others came so naturally to her and she took every precaution available to protect her health. Sadly, we believe she was exposed to COVID while working to help sick patients. Most recently, in May of this year, she nursed a critically ill COVID infected patient back to full health. As a result, the CEO of the National Children’s Center (NCC) and the patient's family had praised her for the amazing acts of loving care and support.
We would like to thank everyone for your prayers, support, and love during this difficult time. This unimaginable loss comes during an already challenging time. Although she is no longer with us physically, we know she is with us spiritually and living through her children.
***UPDATE*** The family will be holding the funeral memorial services at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home located at 11800 New Hampshire Avenue Silver Spring, MD 20904 on September 18th and 19th, 2020. Due to social distancing restrictions and precautions to protect the health of attending guests, we are limiting the services to 50 physical attendees and providing live stream as a viewing option. Memorial and viewing will be on September 18th, funeral and burial services will occur on September 19th. If you wish to attend in person or watch via live stream, please contact the family for further details at [phone redacted].
The funds from this GoFundMe Memorial Fund will be used strictly for Betty Olayinka Akinkugbe’s funeral expenses, memorial education fund for her younger children and grandchildren, and donations for a hospital or healthcare organization in support of her legacy. No amount is too little. Again, your support and generosity are greatly appreciated.
We sincerely thank you from the bottom of our hearts during this heartbreaking time of our lives
