In Loving Memory of Shirley Jean Shields

Family, friends, and our beloved community... We need you! On Tuesday, April 11th, 2023, Steve and Shirley Shields were on their way to see their daughter in Arizona. Anybody and everybody knew how excited they were both to be able to go! Shirley told anybody and everybody how excited she was to spend time with her daughter and oldest grandson, and they even booked a little train trip to the Grand Canyon. Steve and Shirley's trip included a layover in Houston that would change our lives forever. During their layover in Houston to their destination... Phoenix, Shirley, had a sudden cardiac event that led her to being on life support . Tests after tests were performed... all of us hoping and praying for a miracle to happen to bring our Shirley back. Days passed, and it felt like eternity... especially for Steve. Her daughter and one of their sons were able to go and be by Steve and Shirley's side. Their oldest son tried so hard to be there for his mom, dad, and siblings, but in the end, was not able to make it due to unforeseen circumstances. Hours upon hours... days after days, doctors going back and forth... this test, that test ran on Shirley with a final outcome to be fatal. No one knows why... we have so many questions as to why this day, why now? It was confirmed that there was no heart attack... no tumor... no cancer... nothing really to pinpoint an exact reason for this untreatable outcome. It was finally determined that our Shirley, had little to no brain activity to sustain her life. All the doctors and tests came back to the sudden cardiac event of an arrhythmia that stopped her heart for too long. This cardiac event left her with severe and significant brain damage. Ultimately, after fighting for her life for 10 days, she passed away with the love of her life, Steve, by her side. Our beautiful, caring, and strong hearted Shirley will be coming back to her home, husband, kids, grandkids, and friends! A memorial will be held for Shirley soon. Our family is asking for some assistance to ensure her daughter and grandson will be able to be in attendance with their family... to be able to be here to celebrate Shirley and her life. Any proceeds collected will go to travel, memorial, and other unforseen expenses that occurred during this time period. To end, Shirley loved her husband, kids, and grandkids more than anything in the world, as well as, the color pink, "adopted" kids(her children's friends), her vibrant hair color choice, anything to do with healthcare, and Bath and Body Works! Please consider contributing so that we may celebrate Shirley and her life!
