In Loving Memory of WO2 Barrie Owens RE
This page is in loving Memory of WO2 Barrie Owens RE who passed on 21 Dec 2020 at the age of 74 after battling the combined effects of a stroke in the summer and eventually, Covid-19
Barrie was one of life's real characters. A wonderful Husband of 55 years to Rosemarie, a hero to his children, Garrie and Tracie, a total legend to his grandchildren Ellie, Megan and Zoe and a good friend to many
Barrie was a Royal Engineers veteran of 22 years serving on Operations in Aden, Northern Ireland and Dofar. He was a dedicated member of the REA Medway Branch for 35 years where he chaired the branch, served continuously on the committee and was actually a trustee for the Charity for 7 years. As a proud Freemason of many years, he was master of both his lodges in Hertfordshire and East Kent provinces. He was very proud of his Welsh heritage with a real passion for rugby, golf and Captain Morgan's ( Dark of course!) rum. At least we know that the Sqn Bar in the Sky will now stock Morgans!!!
His passing will be keenly felt by many people.
Barrie was a active charity supporter, who has raised many of hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity and it was his wish to give back to Brains Matter by way of thanks, for supporting him to recovery following a traumatic brain injury. Brains Matter supports those affected by brain injury either as a result of an accident or illness along with helping their family and carers. They have four centres, a buddy service and a full programme of activities in West Kent
The measure of a man is in the lives he’s touched. People who knew Barrie all realise the world is a poorer place for his passing, but richer for him being there
