Hello everyone,

My name is Ashlyn Sanders, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my beloved aunt, Janet Germany, and her immediate family. Recently, our family received devastating news. My aunt has been diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare and rapidly progressing condition that attacks the brain. We don’t know how she contracted the disease as symptoms began late 2023. Unfortunately, there is no cure for CJD, and her health is declining quickly. In January my aunt’s personality really shifted. In February/ March she started having tremors. By May her tremors were so severe she could not walk without assistance. In July she fell and lost most of her ability to hold herself up. In August she could no longer use her limbs or speak legibly and in September she stopped being able to swallow. We were able to get her to MCG hospital in Augusta where we were informed of the CJD diagnosis in October. We do not know how long we have left before she goes home to be with the Lord. We will be making the decision to put her in hospice very soon!!!!!!!!!!!! She is still currently breathing on her own!

Auntie Jan is an incredible person full of love, warmth, and kindness. A devout Christian, her faith has always been her guiding light. Her words to me over the past few months showed how she continues to hold onto her relationship with God. She is someone who has consistently put all her family and friends first! Always offering support, love, and endless care to those around her. Her home has always been filled with laughter, comfort, and the delicious food she would prepare that many ask for. We will all miss her beautiful smile, amazing cooking, and the way she made sure everyone felt taken care of.

In the face of this tragic diagnosis, her immediate family is facing significant emotional and financial burdens. From mounting medical bills to the need for end-of-life care, the costs are overwhelming. The financial strain is what greatly delayed the diagnosis as my aunt went to over five hospitals for help this entire year. As you can imagine how scared we as the family became over the constant question marks that were never answered. Calia, her eldest daughter, quit work to help give full time care since late April.

We are setting up this GoFundMe to help alleviate some of the financial stress on her family during this incredibly difficult time. The funds raised will go directly to covering:
  • Medical expenses not covered by insurance
  • Hospice or palliative care
  • Funeral and memorial service when necessary
  • Support for her children (Jaylen 27, Calia 23, and Kendalyn 14) as they navigate this painful journey.

We want to provide Auntie Jan and her family with some peace of mind, so they can focus on spending the short amount of precious time left together without the additional worry of financial strain.
Any contribution, no matter the amount, is deeply appreciated. Even if you can’t donate, sharing this campaign with your family, friends, or community would mean the world to us!!!
We will keep everyone updated on her condition and how your generosity is making a difference. Also for any memorial services to follow.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support during this heartbreaking time.
Please continue to pray for everyone! I love you so much Auntie!!!!! I’m going to miss you calling me, Loula what you doing girl?!

I pray that this transition is tranquil and that you feel all the love from everyone if it comes to pass that you go home with God and know we will all miss you so much.
God, I ask that you deliver Janet from this disease and make her whole again. Heal her Father God and restore her to full health. Father God, we confess that we don't understand why things happen the way they do. We do know that you walk every path of life with us. May these moments reflect his loving warmth, grace, and mercy. In Jesus name, Amen

With gratitude,
Ashlyn and Family
