In Memoriam: Don's Brain Cancer Fundraiser
Tax deductible
Exactly a year and three days ago, as my beloved grandfather was in his final hours of life, I sat down at the piano and I wrote a song.
His caregiver, Sophie, played it for him when he was too weak to sit up or speak. She placed his phone on his chest and played it over and over until she knew all the lyrics too. She said he laced his hands over the phone and held it to himself. I’d like to think it was my final gift to him to see him off. And now, a year after his death, I’m sharing it in the hope that it can be a gift for the many others who are battling brain cancer.
If you give the song a listen, please consider donating however much you can. All funds will go to the National Brain Tumor Society, an organization that is fighting tirelessly to make headway in drug advancements, research, and public policy changes for brain tumor patients.
Thank you so much to Steve Perski for donating his time, studio, and talent out of the kindness of his heart. I’m so grateful to have a professional mix of a song that once lived only in my iPhone and on my grandpa’s chest.
I hope we one day live in a world where no one has to lose someone the way I lost my grandfather. And I hope this is a small step toward making that a reality.
With love,
Sarah
