In Memoriam: Everett Ogawa
Everett Ogawa, a brother, father, spouse, teacher, mentor, healer, and friend, touched many lives before his own life ended unexpectedly this past July 15, 2020. In the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, we all try to make sense of this manʻs entering and abiding in our lives, and his sudden leaving, knowing that he left his imprint in, and impact on us in so many different ways.
Everett is survived by his sisters Cheryl Ho and Liesa Ogawa, and his son, Jason Ogawa.
The family welcomes your kind remembrances and assistance as they deal with the inescapable physical aspects of Everettʻs passing, including providing for Everettʻs wishes to be cremated, as well as many the legal and other financial burdens that accompany any passing. We hope, with your kind gifts of おー香典, or o-kōden ("incense money"), gifts offered to the bereaved, to pay these expenses as quickly as practicable, knowing, of course, that this is a time of hardship for all. We anticipate closing this fundraiser by September 15, 2020, a month after his familyʻs memorial for him.
Traditionally, o-kōden was managed by members of the extended family or close friends, and we follow in this tradition. Because of the CoViD-19 pandemic, in lieu of the traditional o-kōden, this gofundme campaign has been organized and is being managed by Ms. Kahana Ho, Everettʻs sister-in-law, alongside, and for the benefit of Jason Ogawa, who is the designated beneficiary of this fundraiser.
