In Memory: Mark Burford and Mi Casa Kids
Donation protected
Ya'll check out the major update below!
Original post: Mark Burford was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in September 2019.
Very quickly, he knew he wanted to raise money for Mi Casa Kids. Specifically, he wanted to help them get a 15-passenger van, to provide the kids in El Salvador with much-needed transportation to and from school and around the country.
Mark's connection to Mi Casa Kids International came through his friend and colleague, Sean McDonell, whose mother Maricela (from El Salvador) and father Bob (from Lake Oswego, Oregon) have run the project in El Salvador since 1989.
Mi Casa Kids currently cares for 28 youth who lost their families or have been abandoned. Mi Casa has done an incredible job of graduating three generations of youth who are becoming young leaders throughout El Salvador.
Mark passed away March 26, 2020. Our plan is to finish what he started.
We've met with both Sean and Bob and they have a quote for a Toyota 15-passenger van from a local dealership for $25,500. The Sunriver-La Pine Rotary Chapter has agreed to put $5,000 towards the van. That leaves us with $20,500.
If you have been thinking of making a donation or contribution in Mark’s name, consider Mi Casa. You can also make donations through the Rotary Sunriver Lapine chapter (just make sure to designate it's for the Mi Casa van) or directly to Mi Casa International .
Sincerely thank you.
- The Burford Family

UPDATE: 7/25. We're 1/5 of the way there! Every donation is remarkable and I feel like we are doing it! Thank you for the support. And, gotta give a shout out to our very first donor to kick of the fundraiser - Bob McDonell himself :)
