In Memory of Allegra DiCarlo Buffalino

Donation protected
For those of you who do not know, my aunt Allegra was brought to heaven on Friday, April 10. She was a strong fighter in her battle with stage 4 lung and brain cancer for fourteen months. She traveled to many doctors and participated in many treatments, showing her strong will and bravery. Her health seemed to be on the mend as she joined our family at her niece Lauren’s beautiful wedding in January. We are all grateful to have shared this occasion as one of our last joyful memories with Allegra.

Not long after, her health began to rapidly decline. She felt new and sharper pains than she felt before and the doctor shared that the cancer had spread throughout her body. Allegra continued to attend her cancer treatments. She spent her last few weeks being cared for in her home by her daughter Toni, her son Frank, and her husband Anthony. With the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, doctors felt like it was safest for Allegra to be at home. Toni, Frankie and Anthony slept by her side and did everything that they could do for her, until her needs escalated and they could no longer wait to bring her to the hospital.

Precautionary measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 prevented our family and Allegra’s friends from visiting the hospital, but the caring nurses at Plainview Hospital made it possible for her family to be with her on FaceTime. In her last few days with us Allegra spoke of seeing her father, Ned, and of traveling to the beach. Our family takes comfort in knowing that Allegra is no longer in pain and is with her mother and her father on a beach somewhere, watching over all of us.

While grieving during this unprecedented time, we will not yet be gathering to honor Allegra’s life; we will have a mass of remembrance when social distancing protocols are lifted. We wanted to use this platform to offer love and support to Allegra’s family, including assistance with her medical bills and the sharing of heartwarming memories and/or stories about Allegra to help her family feel the love through this challenging time.

Due to an updated online security measure of GoFundMe, donors are the only ones who can upload stories or photos, once a donation is provided. If you choose to be a visitor and not a donor, please take the time to also share your stories and photos away from GoFundMe as we are all taking comfort in having each other during these trying times. We will always remember Allegra as a loving mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt and friend.
