In Memory Of & Honoring Jen Mistler

The last time I used this photo was not even two years ago, to remember and memorialize my mother. I am so sad, and numb, that I have reason to use it again: to remember and memorialize my beloved – my only – sister. Over this past weekend, Jennifer Mistler passed away, apparently from complications from her prior hospitalization.
I don’t know how to grasp this. If I can find something bright in this incredible darkness it is that Jen had made it back to New Orleans before passing. She seemed to have turned a corner and have such a bright future in the city she was always meant to be in, which made this news all the more sudden and devastating. But she was HOME and that is important and good.
Jen always sought to care for other people – sometimes to her own detriment (and my occasional frustration). Now I have an opportunity to properly care for her. After a discussion with some of her friends, I have decided that cremation is what she would have wanted. Unfortunately, I do not have the resources for cremation, or for getting to New Orleans to deal with other matters or logistics.
I have asked for too much from all of you, and your generosity has been astounding and heart-warming. Thank you for your ongoing support – it really means so, SO much to me.
