In memory of an exceptional artisan - Jagdish ji
Jagdish Chhipa, one of our artisans who worked in our studio in Sanganer, Rajasthan for more than a decade passed away in May due to COVID-19 related complications.
Laudably sincere and hardworking, he had a featherlight, almost ethereal presence at the studio, was never sick and never took a day off... until COVID. He liked to work wearing a lungi and his only indulgence was to get his hair dyed jet black, twice a year on Holi and Diwali.
Over the years most of our Spice Route collection was printed by him and he was our 'gold paste' expert. All our prints that are embellished with gold paste: Memories of Shalimar, Bridal Veil, Vanilla Glace were printed by him.
In his honor we would like to host a fundraiser to benefit his dependent wife Punam Devi and their three children. We will forward all proceeds from the fundraiser to Punam Devi who will need a way to make ends meet and stay healthy as they grieve.
Jagdish will live on in our memories and in the beautiful textiles he crafted. Thank you in advance for your generosity. Small contributions, even $5 - cost of a Starbucks coffee, go a long way.
Sincerely,
Anisha/Saffron Marigold team

We honor our fair trade commitment to our artisans. In these times, that also means doing everything in our power to get them the medical support they need, help pay partial wages during government shutdowns, and ensure a safe studio environment. While we are still happy to offer our usual free shipping over $150 this Memorial Day weekend, in lieu of a big sale we will be donating a portion of proceeds to Jagish's wife and three children. Your support of our small business helps us take care of our wonderful artists. You make a difference! Thank you.
