In Memory of Anne-Marie Hutchinson OBE QC (Hon)

Donation protected
Anne-Marie Hutchinson OBE QC (Hon), who has been unwell for some time, passed away on Friday 2 October. In her honour, her family and Dawson Cornwell have set up a donation page to honour her memory by supporting the charities that meant the most to her.

Anne-Marie has always been a prominent character in the life of the firm and was of course known throughout the world for her ground breaking work in the field of child abduction and family law generally. She was also a proud mother to Catherine and Sam, and more recently a proud grandmother of Emmeline Marie.

Over the years, Anne-Marie has acted for the victims of child abduction, forced marriages, abandoned spouses, honour based violence and female genital mutilation. She has done so much for those who are most vulnerable and who, without her efforts, would have remained victims.

Anne-Marie was always willing to give her time and was a supporter of many charities. It therefore seemed fitting that instead of flowers, her memory is honoured by a continuous support of the charities that meant to the most to Anne-Marie.

Donations will therefore be split across the following charities:-

1) Reunite International: a leading UK charity specialising in international parental child abduction and the movement of children across international borders. Anne-Marie was a Chair of Trustees of Reunite for almost three decades. (https://www.reunite.org/

2) Henna Foundation: a foundation working across devolved geographical boundaries to advance the needs, concerns and aspirations of Muslim women, children and families that they live with. (http://hennafoundation.org/home.html

3) Sharan Project: a charity providing support and advice to vulnerable women, particularly of South Asian origin, who have been disowned or at risk of being disowned due to abuse or persecution (including as a result of Forced Marriage, an issue that Anne-Marie campaigned against). (https://sharan.org.uk/

4) IKWRO: a foundation whose mission is to protect Middle-Eastern and Afghan women and girls who are at risk of 'honour' based violence, forced marriage, child marriage, female genital mutilation and domestic violence and to promote their rights. (http://ikwro.org.uk/

5) Southall Black Sisters: a not-for-profit organisation aiming to highlight and challenge all forms of gender-related violence against women, empower them to gain more control over their lives, live without fear of violent and assert their human rights to justice, equality and freedom. (https://southallblacksisters.org.uk/)

Anne-Marie’s children, family, friends and colleagues are very thankful for the outpouring of kind words of support and sympathy from around the world since the news of her passing was announced.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, her funeral will be limited to family. A memorial service to celebrate Anne-Marie’s wonderful life will be arranged for next year.

Anne-Marie’s family and Dawson Cornwell thank you for your support and donations.

The donations will be split across the charities listed above by Stephen Harker, the managing partner of Dawson Cornwell and Anne-Marie's dear friend and colleague.
