In memory of Annie Lai

It’s with a heavy heart that I’m creating this for you Babe.
The sudden and tragic death of Annie Lai, who passed away in on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at the age of 37, has left our family and community in a state of shock and sorrow.
Heaven has gained the biggest little Angel. This is the most heartbreaking farewell to everyone who adores Annie. We lost Annie unexpectedly. Gone too soon, Annie was everyone's sweetest friend with the biggest heart- a beam of light with her infectious smile— she was the most kindest soul. She fostered puppies on her spare time. Every poor wild puppy she could get her little hands on. She was always ready to give the most uplifting support to those around her when they were struggling. She was a giver. There are not enough words for the legacy Annie has left on our families’ and friends’ lives.
You were my very first friend when I came to Walnut. We lived on the same street since we were 7 years old. The sleepovers, playing video games, button mashing to beat your brother until our fingers ached— and we still lost. The snack sessions. The laughs that made our belly hurt. We played everyday until the street lights came on. We shared the same birthday. July 11th—So many countless birthdays celebrated as we grew up together. We were in orchestra together. We went to school together. We danced, We cried, We sang karaoke- sappy Asian love ballads until the doors closed. We grew up together as we weaved in and out of each others paths. And life brought us together again at work for 8 beautiful years. I am forever grateful to have watch you grow up Bestie. Somewhere in a parallel universe I’m hugging you as you’re telling me about your day and I’d reply everything’s going to be ok. It’s wildly heartbreaking to process someone I love so dearly— to have to accept we won’t be spending the rest of our lives growing together like we planned. At this point I’m unsure which pain is worst.. the shock of what has happened or the ache for what never will.
We have tragically lost a wife, daughter, sister, colleague, teacher and beloved friend. To honor Annie’s memory, I have created this fundraiser. It takes a village to assist those most in need but more importantly no parent should have to bear the devastating farewell to a child alone. As our community comes together to extend condolences to Annie’s family, we kindly request your support to help the funeral costs and any other additional needs during their period of grief.
We ask that the family's privacy be respected at this time, but keep them in your thoughts and prayers. This GoFundMe has been established with the permission of the family. All funds will go directly to them.
Thank you for supporting Annie and sending all your love in these dark days ahead. May we find light in the memories we shared with her.
