In Memory of Ashlin: Support Her Loved Ones

Have you ever listened to the song Angels Among Us by the band Alabama? Well allow me to tell you about one of these angels. Ashlin Grayce Johnson was born November 16, 2007. To Robert and Nikki Johnson she was a perfectly beautiful little angel. No one would have ever guessed that just 23 months later Ashlin would be diagnosed with Rett Syndrome. (I am including the link to the Rett website for those that are not familiar) Most little girls that get this diagnosis only live a few years, a lucky few make it to double digits and even less make it to 16. But our Ashlin was a fighter and with the loving support of family and friends and a rock star of a mom, our sweet angel made it to 16 years old. Ashlin didn’t let Rett stop her from being a cheerleader and anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Ashlin will tell you she had the greatest smile ever. She loved the WWE and especially Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns. Despite the pain she was in at times and her inability to communicate by conventional methods she had the ability to brighten your day just by being her. Ashlin fought a long hard battle, and her little body is tired. Those of us that love her have always agreed to fight as long as she could, but we have reached the dreaded time we all knew would come one day. Ashlin closed her eyes here and opened them to see her Daddy standing in front of her with open arms and I just know she ran to him and told him all the things she always wanted to say but couldn’t.

Ashlin’s mom Nikki, has been her #1 supporter, caregiver, and advocate since day one. These last few years have been horribly cruel to Nikki. In 2021 she lost the love of her life to Covid. And now 3 short years later she has said goodbye to her precious angel, Ashlin. Ashlin’s siblings, whom she loved so very much, are left trying to cope with the huge void left. Please continue to pray for them (Kaitlin, Jarrod, Jakob, Maliyah) and for Nikki and her boyfriend, Jon, and Nikki’s mom Kathy.
