In Memory of Bill Golden: Support Black Leaders

Donation protected

If you love Keith Golden, then you love Bill Golden.

Keith's father, Rev. Bill Golden, is one half of the couple who made Keith the incredible, relentless, moving, and movement-obsessed badass he is today.

On March 24th, Bill left his body after enduring a mercifully short few months with Lewy Body Dementia. Keith was by his side every step of the way, down to his last breath, during which Keith said the last words Bill would ever hear: "I love you."

Bill was a leader in his community, dedicated to strengthening and inspiring Black people to be leaders themselves. That dedication drove him in both of his careers—as a pastor and an educator. In his 31 years as a teacher, he gained a reputation for being tough yet encouraging. He believed "every student can learn."

In Keith's words, "He taught Black kids at Mervo about the criminal justice system which they often found themselves at odds with because of their race."

A former student remembered him this way: "He was a mentor, someone you could confide in and get advice from. He made you want to be a better person and he inspired so many. People talk about how he changed their lives. He made learning and doing better fun for everybody."

While attending Morgan State University, Bill met the love of his life, Keith's mom, Peggy. They married in 1963 and were together until Peggy passed away from cancer in 2006.

Both Bill and Peggy had 30+ year careers teaching in city schools. In honor of their shared dedication to educating young Black people, we are raising funds to support the tuition of future Black leaders -- by donating to the Growing the Future Opportunity Fund at Morgan State University.

Please consider honoring them by donating. Know that your gift will go to good, and needed, use.

Unless you donate anonymously, your name will be shared with Keith when we tell him about the fundraiser.

Any questions, please privately message Jessica Knott or Caitlyn OFlaherty.
