In Memory of Calvin Oliphant

On Monday, May 1st, 2023, Calvin Oliphant passed away— five years since he received his diagnosis of stage four colon cancer. We are heavy hearted to hear about his passing and decided to create this fundraiser to provide Calvin’s wife and our dear friend Brigitte critical financial support and comfort in her time of need.

The last five years have been filled with so many ups and downs for the Oliphant family. Calvin withstood unbearable amounts of radiation and chemotherapy. Lots of deep pain, sadness, and anger. But there was always so much hope and love as well. Despite being given only 18 more months, he battled cancer for 5 years! He didn’t shy away from relearning to walk after two spine surgeries and recovering from complicated brain and bowel surgeries. Not too long ago, it looked like he could be cancer free.

Brigitte and Calvin cherished every pain free moment they had together. They fought till the end to create more positive memories. Brigitte was always by Calvin’s side for every doctor appointment, surgery, treatment, therapy, and periods of recovery. In March 2023, they received the shocking message that there are no treatment options that could cure his cancer anymore. One week before his passing, Calvin suffered a sudden paralysis. Carrying around years of pressure of providing a stable income and health insurance for them while also being Calvin’s full-time caregiver, Brigitte suffered a panic attack and lost her job. Her employer was not able to provide her with any sick days or medical leave anymore.

Your donation will allow Brigitte to cover the memoral service that Calvin deserves and that would have been covered by Brigitte’s benefits. You will also help her in covering necessary household expenses and bills, giving her time to grief and collect new energy, step by step.
