the family of Chick Bills

Our brilliant friend, Charles (Chick) Gordon Bills, died on May 5th this year after a long and catastrophic illness. An extraordianry man, Chick was a polymath and one of the most unique people anywhere, at any time.
We hope to provide support for his widow, the artist Chris Lidrbauch, who ministered to Chick with love and compassion over these last several years. Her heart is broken but her will is strong. Still, Chris is left with piles of medical debt, a mountain of bills, and the massive work/live compound that she and Chick built in East Hampton's Northwest Woods.
Chris and Chick at the beach
Chris is a loving and generous person who would never ask for our help. But going forward she will face enormous challenges, and these will take place while she is grieving the loss of her husband of 22 years. Please help us provide for Chris so she can be relieved of at least some of her burden. She's a great gal who now needs the benefit of our empathy.
Chick Bills was an artist, engineer, conservator, fabricator, architect, metallurgist, inventor, foundryman, machinist and innovator, and he leaves behind a legacy of creativity that will be in our hearts forever. He was also endlessly funny, generous, and possessed of a radical mind and an elastic, constantly moving intellect. His technological acumen was unparalleled, and everyone seemed to benefit in one way or another from his extensive knowledge base.
He will be missed.
With many thanks to Kristina Moucha, whose 2014 interview on Chick can be viewed here: https://vimeo.com/98176611
