Hi everyone, if you're taking the time to read this I already would like to thank you. I would like to take this time to share a bit about Christian's story. For those of you who don't know, my name is Lindsay Sowder and Christian was my nephew. My brother, Craig Sowder and sister-in-law Kimberly Sowder found out during their pregnancy that little Christian was diagnosed with Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). HLHS is a birth defect that affects normal blood flow through the heart and causes the left side of the heart to not form correctly. From the day my family found out about Christian's condition, we all knew it was going to be a difficult road. With many prayers and faith everyone kept their spirits high and surrounded the expecting parents with love and positive thoughts.
On March 16, 2020, Christian made his grand entrance into this world and into the loving arms of his mommy and daddy! Sadly because of COVID-19 none of Christian's family members outside of his parents were able to visit him, but he had all of the love he needed! Two days after he was born Christian went for his first major heart surgery. Our entire family held their breath that day for 5-6 long hours until we got word that Christian made it out of surgery. Unfortunately it did not go as the doctors planned, and Christian had some complications during his surgery. My family desperately prayed and asked everyone they knew for prayers as well, we never lost hope. Christian fought tirelessly every second of every day.
It is with a heavy heart that I write on March 27, 2020 Christian could not fight any longer, and went to be with the angels. During Christian's short 10 days on this Earth, he received more love from his mommy and daddy and everyone who knew him than some people ever will receive in their lifetime.
Please help my family to provide Christian with the services he deserves so that his family can always remember the time they had with him. All of the funds will go directly to assist the family in paying for memorial services as well as hospital bills from Christian's time at CHOP.
From the bottom of our hearts, our family thanks you again for reading about Christian's story and for anything you are able to give to assist my family during this devastating time.
