On behalf of the Okongwu family, we are devastated to announce the untimely death of our son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend, Chukwuma Okongwu, PharmD. Chukwuma Udechukwu Okongwu (affectionately known by family and friends as "Chuma" and "Chuck") passed away on July 23rd, 2018, in Houston, Texas.
Chukwuma, a Boston native, was born on February 25, 1983, and was the first son of Mbadiwe and Nonye Okongwu, who immigrated to the United States from Nigeria in the 1970s. As the first son, Chukwuma set the bar high for his three younger siblings through his many accolades and accomplishments.
Chukwuma attended the highly esteemed Boston Latin School. Upon graduating from high school Chukwuma went to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He later transferred to Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science University - Boston and received his Doctorate in Pharmacy in 2008. Thereafter, he moved to Houston and began working for the Department of Veterans Affairs, while also working part-time at Walgreens.
Chukwuma is survived by his dad, Reuben, his brothers, Chinedu and Ikenna, and his sister, Ogechukwu. For those who had the pleasure of knowing him, knew Chukwuma's presence could light up any room. He is known for his infectious smile; his incredible personality; and his resolute faith -- a true man of character. He was a man who loved life; extremely smart, funny, compassionate and always exuded a compelling charm. Many looked up to Chukwuma and sought his guidance and counsel, whether on spiritual or temporal matters.
We created this page to help bring those who loved him together to offer the family anything they see fit. All efforts will be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to share this link and information to friends and colleagues who would also like to support the family.
Sadly, Chukwuma's untimely death has rendered us speechless, and although many of us are left with heavy hearts and a huge void, we believe that he is resting in the bosom of the Lord and has finally reunited with his loving mother.
Rest in eternal peace.
"Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come. For those who follow godly paths will rest in peace when they die." - Isaiah 57:1-2
