"In Memory Of" Covid Memorial Wall Unveiling

"In Memory Of" Project was a participatory art project where the artists Alex! Jimenez and Paloma Jacqueline invited the public to create memorial tiles for their loved ones who were lost to COVID-19. A series of 5 workshops were held from October 2022 til May of 2023 with many individuals stopping in during drop in studio hours. Many more people engaged with the online website to submit the name of a loved one lost to be included on a name tile. In total, almost 300 names are represented in the final artwork.

From June through July of 2023 the artists worked diligently to fire and glaze all the contributed clay works and assemble them onto boards to be mounted at the installation site. Meanwhile the memorial wall plans have been working their way through the City of Tucson's permitting process. The wall was finally constructed in early November and the mosaic tiles were installed at the end of November.

This GoFund me is to raise funds for an unveiling event so that we can celebrate the completion of this memorial together with food, music, laughter, and tears. Any extra funds raised will go towards the artists for their work installing the artwork and organizing the unveiling.

The Mural Unveiling is set for Sunday, December 10th, 2023 from 3pm to 5:30pm at Mission Manor Park. You can find the memorial wall off of S. 12th Ave entrance on the eastside of the park and next to the playground! Please join us!!
