In memory of Daisy "Caspian" Hinton

Donation protected
It is with great sadness that we share the tragic news of the death of Daisy "Caspian" Mary Sophie Hinton, age 16. Daisy left this world on February 11, 2023 from the Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre in Coquitlam BC after a battle with mental illness.

Daisy was born on October 18, 2006 at the Victoria General Hospital in Victoria BC to Liz and Chris Hinton. She lived with her family in West Kelowna and attended Rose Valley Pre-School, Rose Valley Elementary, Helen Gorman Elementary, Glenrosa Middle School and briefly the Westside Learning Centre.

Daisy was an active member of Girl Guides of Canada, attending Sparks, Brownies, Girl Guides and Pathfinders programs. She planned to travel to Europe with her Pathfinder group in March 2020 when COVID turned her world upside down. Daisy was an avid reader; the Warrior series was one of her favorites. She was the goalie for the West Kelowna Youth Soccer Association Select U11 and U12 team for two years. She was interested in exploring her spirituality and she attended Christian youth groups at Emmanuel Assembly in West Kelowna. In the last few years she was learning to play the piano.

Daisy was loved by everyone who knew her. She was a sweet, sunny, funny, kind and beautiful child who struggled with anxiety as she moved into adolescence. Every one of her siblings openly declared Daisy as their favorite.

As an adolescent, gender identity became a very important part of the journey for Daisy. A non-binary identity, pronouns of they/them or him, and the name Caspian or “Casper” is how many of her friends and family will remember this amazing and unique individual.

This campaign has been set up for those wishing to help the family by contributing toward the financial costs of Daisy's celebration of life. Any contributions received in excess of funeral-related expenses will be donated to Ronald MacDonald House Charities.

Funeral services will be held on February 25th, 2023 at 1:00PM at Emmanuel Assembly Church (2600 Hebert Road West Kelowna) with a reception to follow. Anyone who knew Daisy, or wishes to support the family, is welcome to attend.
