In memory of Darla Jean, for Clairissa & Ryan.

Clairissa & Ryan Moore were expecting their first child on March 26th. Her pregnancy had been one of ease, with hardly any sickness. Darla Jean had been an active and healthy baby throughout. When the due date passed, no one had given much thought. In fact, many had hoped that she arrive on the 28th, the birthday of Clarissa and her father. The 28th came and went, no Darla Jean. The 29th came and while still active in the womb, she still was not ready. Clairissa went in for a checkup the next day, a day that must have felt just like any other. The sun was shining; finally beginning to warm up, birds chirping, and spring was in the air. After ten years of marriage, and many years of trying to conceive, she had reached the finish line. The moment she had been waiting for her whole life was upon her. Then it happened – the doctor told her, “I’m so sorry, there is no heartbeat.” Forty-eight hours, and many more excruciating events later, she delivered Darla Jean. It was determine the umbilical wrapped around her ankle in the night, and through lack of nutrients and oxygen due to a pinched umbilical cord, Darla Jean passed away March 31, 2021.
