I first met David in the 4th grade in the St. Clare’s schoolyard in the Bronx. Our journey began with him pulling my winter hat (which I did not want to wear) off my head and running through the schoolyard with it in hand. He would not give it back to me. I can remember it so clearly and being so embarrassed and excited at the same time. That was just the beginning.
Eventually, we became teenage sweethearts. He gave me the most beautiful ankle bracelet. At that time, an ankle bracelet was a big deal and symbolized that I was his girl.
We both took detours and went our separate ways before finding our way back to each other ten years ago to this month.
I remember when he first came back into my life. He stepped out of the car, and my knees buckled. I knew my life would never be the same.
Considering the many challenges David encountered throughout his life, it’s truly a testament to his character and speaks volumes that he always kept a positive outlook and was never bitter. We had the best laughs together that I will always remember. He taught me how to treasure each day and be grateful for the present moment. I will continue to do so, even though things will never be the same without him.
He will be missed and loved by so many. I ask you to please share with me your favorite memories and stories of him on this page. I know there are many and look forward to reading them. I know he is watching over us.
