In loving memory of Dave Martinez

My dad, David Martinez, was hit by a car while riding his bicycle home from work on December 11, 2018 by a driver who fled the scene. He fractured his skull, nasal cavity, and eye sockets. Dad was told by the hospital to recover at home and was given pain medication. On December 21, 2018, I found him unconscious in his bed at home. He was taken to Lutheran Medical Center and was in the ICU after being diagnosed with meningitis, an infection of the spine and meninges. Dad was making progress and was moved to internal medicine; however, within the same day he was taken to Neuro Critical Care after a drastic decline. On the morning of January 3, he suffered from cardiac arrest. A member of the nursing staff was able to restart his heart. He was placed on a ventilator to help him breathe. After several tests, it was determined he was having constant seizures. When reviewing an MRI, the doctors found strokes in parts of his brain that would leave him paralyzed and reliant on breathing and feeding tubes. The night of Monday, January 7th, 2019 my dad passed away.
