In Memory of Dawn Cohea

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that we lost a beloved member of our community this past weekend, Dawn Cohea. Dawn passed away early Saturday morning, in the arms of her mother, Gussie, after a long and hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.

Dawn was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer in early 2020 and fought valiantly right up until the end.

Dawn was a deeply loyal, loving, generous, authentic, and joyful daughter, family member, colleague and friend. She was a widely respected leader in our progressive data and analytics community, most recently serving as the Director of Data and Analytics for LCV. She was passionate about environmental, racial, and social justice. Dawn also was active as a regular analytics bootcamp trainer and mentor, with an affinity for diversifying the movement. Previously, Dawn served as Deputy Data Director at Battleground Texas and held data roles at Planned Parenthood.

Dawn is survived by her mother, Gussie, a retired teacher, who lost her only child this weekend. Last week, Dawn and Gussie also received news that Dawn’s beloved pup of 13 years, Charley, is in kidney failure.

We are raising funds for Gussie to make sure she has all the resources she needs during this time of unimaginable grief.
