In Memory of Derek Nestich

On Monday, August 1, 2022, Derek A. Nestich died unexpectedly at the age of 49.

Derek was a sensitive, loving, generous soul. He had a heightened intuitive awareness and love of all things pure and honest. He noticed the slightest of details: a frog on a lily pad, a prism of light in a frozen puddle, a lonely elderly woman sitting alone, a vulnerable student at school. He could easily sense if you felt alone, discouraged or sad, and he took action to uplift you, whether he was saying a kind word, acknowledging you, or just saying something goofy with a smile to let you know you mattered to him. His voice was gruff, loud and demanding in all the right ways, the way a natural-born coach should be.

Derek was deeply committed to his family. Jodi is the perfect match for Derek. She just got him. They raised a beautiful, conscientious, talented daughter together. Jodi and Lily will need all of our support emotionally and financially moving forward without Derek by their side.

Derek was employed for 23 yrs. at Countryside Academy and impacted so many students' lives over the years. As an athletic director, coach, and physical education teacher, he knew everyone and everything Countryside Academy. The deep respect and impact he had on his students has been expressed beautifully on his Facebook page.

The reason for the GoFundMe is to support his wife Jodi and his daughter Lily in the next few months as they navigate life without Derek. Most of us are not prepared to lose our husbands and fathers, so anything you can donate is deeply appreciated. Funds will go directly to Jodi and Lily.
