In memory of Derek Thompson
Derek Thompson was a man who helped shape many lives in many different spheres and we deeply miss him since we lost him in February 2022.
In January 2021 he attended A&E with covid symptoms, however after a routine chest x-ray he was told there was something sinister going on. Despite his lung cancer diagnosis he never once complained, always remained so upbeat and every day he sought to put others first.

As a group of his family, friends and colleagues at Electrical Training Trust we have decided to follow his footsteps through the Mourne Mountains that he loved so much.
In his final year he made it up twice. Once before surgery but he was also determined to get up even after his lung surgery. We created some wonderful memories with him and in his memory we would love to walk those two exact routes to raise funds for MacMillan.
During his stay in MacMillan he received such amazing care and even a few treats that we know was all made possible through those who fundraised before us and now we would love to give back.
Our first walk will be up Doan on 2nd July. This will be 2-3 hours.
Our second walk will be Slieve Commedagh via the Brandy Pad on 3rd Sept. This will take 5-6 hours.
Both walks will take in plenty of breaks and enjoy some of the most stunning views the Mournes have to offer.
If you would like to come along we’ll post up some itinerary stuff that you’ll need for a day in the Mournes.
