In memory of Derrick Watkins and surviving family

This page is an opportunity to help one of the greatest members of our Southern Guilford High School family. Derrick Watkins went to be with his savior on Thursday, March 30th, 2023. Derrick was the epitome of what you would ask for in a friend, teammate, brother, and son. His infectious smile and laughter could light up the darkest of rooms and moods. Funeral arrangements have not been announced at this time.

We all know that the last couple of years have been hard financially for everyone. Derrick's passing has left quite a strain on his mother, Sandra, and their family. The funeral costs alone are a sudden monetary crisis at a time of emotional stress that a loved one has passed. While we cannot undo the hurt of his absence, we can try to ease the burden of helping pay for the funeral. Derrick was the type of person to give you the shirt off his back if you were in need. Derrick had the uncanny ability to make everyone feel like an old friend no matter how long you knew him.

The SGHS family is a very tight-knit community and we always take care of our own. The brotherhood and sisterhood that grows with every graduating class continue to make us a force that can lift our friends and help them return to some normalcy after a tragedy. One of our very best has fallen and his family is in need. Derrick's gracious and humble character will never be forgotten. We will carry on his memory with our stories and tributes. Please give whatever you can give to ease the financial obstacles that come with death.

Derrick this is not goodbye, this is see you later brother. Rest easy and watch over us. We hope you knew how much so many of us loved you.
