In memory of Doris Picard

Hello, my name is Erika and I am creating this go fund me in memory of my mom Doris Picard. I had actually set this up prior to her passing with her blessing but only if she got to read it over before I shared it. Sadly we never got the chance to go over it together. Time is so precious and I’m not sure we really realize that until time is taken away from us. Hug your loved ones tightly and tell them you love them.

My mom was so kind and full of adventure. She always knew just what to say to brighten your day. She was so positive and happy everyday. I will miss that so much. She loved music and being involved in the musical community. She also loved pickleball and any other game she could win at especially cribbage. Her competitiveness was like no other. She also loved the outdoors. Whether it was just sitting outside watching the birds with her morning latte or kayaking down the Saskatchewan river, camping, finding a new hiking trail, swimming in the ocean or tending the garden it truly brought her joy to be in nature (except for the bugs).

So for those if you who don’t know her cancer story here is what I had written out prior to her passing.

My mom was diagnosed with endometrial cancer with a good prognosis for recovery. On November 16 2022 she underwent a total hysterectomy. Where they removed everything they could but had to leave a tumour that was too close to the inferior vena cava to be safely removed. During her recovery she started having severe pain in her right leg for which she was in and out of hospital trying to find out the reason for the pain. During this time the pain worsened and she developed pain in her hips, ribs and back. At this point with no conclusive reason for the pain her team of doctors scheduled her in for chemo to begin on January 9th.

On January 2nd she was re-admitted to the hospital due to her pain where it was determined that she had a fracture in her right femur along with a fractured rib. The fractures were due to the cancer metastasizing in her bones.

With further testing showing the cancer metastasizing not only in her bones but also the kidneys and lymph nodes her medical team canceled her chemo as the cancer had progressed so aggressively that it would not have any benefit.

With her poor prognosis at that time the only concern for her medical team was managing her pain and keeping her as comfortable as possible.

There will be a celebration of life for Doris with a date to be determined.

The funds raised in memory of my mom will be going to medical, cremation and funeral expenses along with any other unexpected expenses that arise. My mom had also suggested that if there were any funds left over she wanted an education fund to be set up in her granddaughters names.
