In Memory of Doug Gin: Aid for Jeanne's Healing
Donation protected
On Friday, July 5, 2024, Doug Gin (58) was tragically killed in a car crash. His wife, Jeanne Loi (60), is in critical condition at a level 1 trauma center near Denver. She has multiple serious injuries to her brain, lungs, digestive tract, as well as many bone fractures throughout her body. It falls to their two children, Nathan (24) and Amanda (22), to manage their mother’s recovery, and learn on the fly how to manage their family’s finances. Amanda has deferred starting grad school for a year to tackle this challenge, and Nathan will take a personal leave from grad school to share the burden. Both are pursuing Ph.D's in chemistry at MIT in admiration of their father.
Doug was about to retire from being a professor after nearly 30 years of teaching & conducting cutting edge research in chemistry and chemical engineering at University of Colorado Boulder. Prior to this position, he was a beloved assistant professor of chemistry at University of California Berkeley. However, Doug will be most remembered as a loyal and dedicated friend and mentor. He made a point of always making time for family and close friends.
Jeanne’s road to recovery will be very long, and very expensive. She is facing numerous additional surgeries, followed by rehabilitation, therapy, and likely lifelong disability. The donations from this will be put towards Jeanne's medical bills and Doug's funeral expenses (~$7,000). To help ease the burden on her bereaved children, we hope you will consider supporting them, either through a monetary donation or sharing this story. Your support means everything.
