In memory of Dr Duy Tran

Our beloved Duy Tran - one in a million.

We are friends of Duy, who, like so many others, are immeasurably saddened and devastated by his recent passing.

Duy dedicated his life to helping others. He spent the better part of it striving to understand the human mind and helping those battling mental illness, both professionally and personally. He was a fierce advocate for vulnerable and marginalised members of the community. Undeniably one of the brightest and kindest of our generation, whose empathy and generosity knew no bounds.

He is one of the youngest persons affected by CJD. Little by little, Duy was impacted by a disease that took away one of his greatest gifts - his cognition. There was no rhyme or reason, he was just “unlucky”. His medical team, family and friends could only offer supportive care, as there is no effective therapy for this mysterious and fatal disease.

If Duy were still with us today, he would have fought hard to better understand CJD and to develop a treatment; such that others would not have to endure and suffer as he did during his courageous battle for life.

As such, Duy’s family request that all gifts be directed to the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, who oversees the Australian national CJD registry. Every donation will help us better support those affected by CJD in generations to come.
