In Memory of Dr. Joy Clemente
August 9, 1956 - October 14, 2021
My mother, Joy, practiced veterinary medicine for 40 years, having just retired in April of this year. Throughout the years, she cared for countless household pets and their families and never wavered in her empathy, generosity, and tenderness. She worked tirelessly - long hours and nary a sick day - because she simply loved her work. She had an intense love and appreciation for pets, wildlife, the environment and all living creatures.
Joy graduated from the University of the Philippines, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1980, where she was a leader in the Lady Vets organization, and has remained very close with many of her classmates, some of whom are still connected to the establishment. Upon her retirement, she had returned to the Philippines to start a NGO providing pro bono veterinary services to stray animals and household pets. Some progress had been made before her untimely passing - permits, paperwork, and purchase/shipment of equipment - but, unfortunately, those plans will likely not come to fruition.
If you were lucky enough to listen to my mother talking about her vision, you would have witnessed first-hand how much passion she had for this project and for providing this service. She had such deep care for her practice and for helping those animals that are in less fortunate circumstances. She was truly born to do this work, and on her behalf we are hoping to make contributions to causes and establishments she supported:

Update:
We held a memorial for my mother in Staten Island on November 20, and since there are endless things to say about her I thought I would share a video of her eulogy here with you all.
