In Memory of Elisha Weger

On Friday, December 2, 2022, Elisha passed with her family by her side after a short and courageous journey with breast cancer. Elisha was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer in April 2022. In the following months, Elisha worked tirelessly to support herself and her three young boys financially and emotionally through this endeavour, all while enduring gruelling rounds of chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimes with grace and gratitude.

Elisha was a gift to our community. She was genuine in her love and positivity, which she often shared on her social media platforms. She was selfless throughout her cancer journey, focusing on supporting others journeying alongside her through her Breast Cancer Empowerment Project. Elisha had understanding and patience, especially when interacting with her precious newborn clients. Many were honoured and impressed in witnessing her baby whisper abilities. She also volunteered her skills by photographing stillborn and babies who have died shortly after birth for the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep organization, bringing support and comfort to parents experiencing their worst nightmare.

Elisha’s love for artistic expression was tangible, and many families proudly display her work in our homes. She loved the golden light that peeked through the clouds after a storm. She loved the most unassuming patch of weeds, which would seem inconsequential to anyone other than her. She found so much joy in photographing babies – their whisps of hair, the flaky skin on their hands, their soft and pouty lips, and the perfectly curated sets to compliment the parent’s aesthetic.

Elisha was driven to support others and approached life's challenges with grace and compassion. Her closest friends and family are shattered by this loss, especially for her three young boys. As a single mother, there was much more to be accomplished in supporting her boys to become strong and thoughtful men. The love of her boys and focus on gratitude helped Elisha navigate this unbelievable challenge. She would be here with her boys today if love could cure cancer. Her boys are navigating a new world without their mother. This fundraiser intends to support her children. Her boys will be forced to tackle this immense grief way too young, grow up way too quickly and find a way to move optimistically in this world to discover and appreciate the beauty that continues to grow as their mother desired.

(I, Roberta Kotowich, am a close friend of Elisha's and was asked by her family to initiate this fundraiser. Elisha's boys are the beneficiaries of the collected funds. Funds will be transferred to the boy's trust accounts as determined by Elisha's estate (overseen by family member, Michelle Bailey.)
