In memory of Ella Mahoney
Donation protected
This fund was set up by a close family friend to help raise funds for this wonderful family with medical, memorial and other expenses due to the sudden and unexpected passing of their beloved Ella. Ella and the Mahoney family’s generosity has reached so many over the past years, this is a small way for others to help them in remembrance of their beautiful daughter Ella. Any money raised beyond their expenses will be donated to one of Ella’s favorite charities, supporting 4-H and….you guessed it something with corgis. The funds raised will be given to the family via check upon completion of this fundraiser.
Below is a message the family has shared:
We are devastated to announce that our beloved Ella Mahoney passed away May 16th, after losing her battle with acute liver failure.
She was admitted to Swedish Hospital in Seattle on May 8, where she was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis. The incredible team of doctors and nurses informed us that a liver transplant would be necessary to save her life. We had hoped that a suitable liver would be given to us, but after five days on the transplant list, Ella suffered a terminal brain injury due to swelling. She was not in any pain when she quietly passed at 2:11pm.
Ella had just graduated from Western Washington University in Bellingham with a degree in History. Her determination and dedication towards her passion drove her to learn about some of the world’s darkest moments, where she then allowed her light to shine through. She had acquired a job at the Museum of Flight as a museum educator - the first step of what undoubtedly would have been a long and fulfilling career as an educator. She had planned to pursue a Master’s degree, and potentially a Doctorate.
She leaves behind an enormous network of incredibly loving family, friends, and coworkers. We have had dozens of people come to Swedish over the past week to visit her and help her fight, some even after we knew she wasn’t going to make it. We have worked with Swedish to prepare her to be an organ donor, so that she can save lives that were put into the exact situation as her own. It’s what she would have wanted; to be helping others even in death.
To everyone who helped make her wonderful, but tragically short life as rich and enjoyable as possible, we extend our endless gratitude. She embedded her joy into the lives of so many people, and while she is now gone from this world, she will never be forgotten. May her spirit and soul continue to energize and motivate us all. We will have more details on a commemoration for Ella’s life in the coming days.
All our love,
The Mahoney Family
