Dear Family and Friends,
Throughout his life, my father was always helping people less fortunate than himself. I remember that, in all of the many places that he and my mother lived, they always got involved with causes or individual people who needed help. There are many, many things that they did, and that he did alone, that even his closest friends and family are likely not aware of. He was truly altruistic in this way and set an example for me that I hope to live up to and set the same example for my son, Charlie.

My father loved Paraguay, my mother's home country. Our family there embraced him immediately with more sincere love and acceptance than I have words for. He returned their love, and Paraguay was his second home.
He and my mother have done many things over more than fifty years to help people in Paraguay. There are two particular causes they have helped and supported over the years: the Chapel of the Sacred Family in Asuncion and the Cesar Barrientos School near Arrollos y Esteros.
The Cesar Barrientos was a one room primary school near the small town of Arrollos y Esteros, where our family is originally from and where my grandmother taught school. The school is still where it was when she taught there many years ago, and is still in operation serving that community.
The Chapel of the Sacred Family (Capilla Sagrada Familia) is a small Catholic Church founded in and by the neighborhood in Asuncion where much of our Paraguayan family now lives. My parents have assisted in the development of this small church in many ways over the years. My father enjoyed working there as a volunteer many times during the festival of San Juan, helping grind yucca to make the traditional festival foods.
I know it would please my father much more than flowers or any other remembrance to be able to help these causes one more time. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to help some of his favorite places. Thank you very much.
