Our dear friend and colleague Huaxi Xu passed away on Oct. 14, 2022.
Huaxi is an accomplished scientist who dedicated his career to understanding the molecular mechanism of neurodegenerative diseases, esp. Alzheimer’s. We have known him for 25+ years in our shared pursuit of the formidable Alzheimer’s disease. We watched Huaxi’s career flourished over the years, from that young bright postdoc in the lab of Nobel Laureate Dr. Paul Greengard at Rockefeller University, to the professor and director of Neurodegenerative Disease Program at Sanford-Burnham Biomedical Institute and later professor at Xianmen University Medical College. Huaxi has published more than 180 papers and received numerous awards during this time. As the co-founder and co-editor in chief of Molecular Neurodegeneration since its inception in 2006, he worked tirelessly to make this journal a highly visible platform for scientists from different parts of the world to share their latest findings. Huaxi’s proudest accomplishment is perhaps the many students and postdocs he guided through their early scientific careers and now are contributing to many aspects of biomedical research. He will be sorely missed by his friends, colleagues and Alzheimer research community.
Huaxi left behind two young daughters: Madeline 6 and Adele 10. To lose their beloved father at such a young age is truly heartbreaking. This fundraising campaign is for them – to support their education and to bring them closer to their father through the love and care of his many friends as they grow up. Please donate what you can. On behalf of Adele and Madeline, thank you!
