In Loving Memory of Jagdeep Singh Kang

June 12 2022 will be another tragic day in the history of the waterfront as it was the day our

extended ILWU family suddenly lost our

brother Jagdeep (Gopi) Singh Kang. Jag was

only 32 years old. He was a dedicated worker for ILWU Local 500 ever since he started working back in 2012 and represented his Union and his family with great pride. I got to know Jag well as he moved his way up the boards and always thought of him as a little brother. He was one of the most respectful and hardest working individuals that I have ever had the pleasure of working with on the waterfront. Jag was always there to give a brother or sister a helping hand. Always with a smile on his face and never had a bad thing to say to anyone. Jag was a loving husband and was so proud to become a father to his new born daughter of just 22 days. As all of us are at a loss for words, we cannot imagine the pain Jag's family has to endure with this tragedy. To lose a loved one or a parent at anytime is an unbelievable tragedy but to lose somebody at such a young age and someone just starting life is absolutely devastating. Myself and much of our ILWU family is heartbroken at the loss of our brother. Our motto on the waterfront is An Injury to One is An Injury to All and at times like these is when we need to show it. Nothing will ever make up this loss to our brother's family but we can try help relieve the financial burden this tragic loss will cause Jag's loved ones. We love ❤️ you Jag with all our hearts, you set an example for all of us on how we should treat each other and you will be truly missed but never ever forgotten. ❤️
