In memory of Jason Benkert

Hi all, I have the privilege of being able to call, Jay, a very close friend of mine. Jay was an incredible fun loving person with a “light up the room” type spirit. A former collegiate baseball player and all around athlete. There is no sport Jay would try and NOT succeed at. He was a great friend to golf with, constantly reminding myself and other friends, “it’s not the swing, it’s how you finish the hole”.
He was the type of guy that would give you the shirt off his back if you asked for it. He was not a rich man, but his wealth in happiness and friendships went unmatched! I remember him on several occasions, handing out $100 dollar bills to kids just to see the happiness on their faces. Even when his friends told him to stop, bc we thought it was a poor financial decision, he said, “who cares, it’s just money!”
Jay could strike up a conversation with anyone. Literally anyone. He was more comfortable being in the moment than anyone else I’ve ever met. I can speak for everyone when I say I’d give anything to see his smerky smile or hear his deep belly laugh again. We spoke recently about how much he’s looking forward to up coming friends weddings and setting down a himself. Truly a man of the people. It truly pains me to even write this and one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. Everyone he has touched will truly miss him dearly! Love you Jay!
This tragedy just happened last night so it’s extremely tough to even put this into words. I still have a hard time believing it myself. Jay would give anything for you and all I’m asking is you give a little back for Jay and his loved ones. I made this account to raise funds for Jay’s family, funeral costs, and anything else associated. It’s the least we can all do for such a great person with an even better soul. Give what you can and let’s make sure there is no additional burden to Jay’s family. We Love you, Jay! Gone but not forgotten.
Also, it’s too early for a service date just yet but I will update when I can. Thanks
