On Saturday, November 6, 2021, Jasper Wu, a 23-month-old boy, was asleep in his car seat on his way home to Fremont on Highway 880 when a stray bullet hit him in the head. He was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, he did not make it. His family is devastated and has asked those responsible to turn themselves in. Please view Dion Lim's, report on this tragic accident at https://abc7news.com/jasper-wu-23-month-killed-toddler-on-freeway-880-shooting-kills-baby/11213553/.
The Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce is disheartened to learn that another life has succumbed due to violence, especially one so young. President Carl Chan met with the family and was further saddened when he was told that Jasper never had a chance to meet his father because his father went back to China and has not been able to return to the United States to be with his wife and see Jasper’s birth because of the COVID travel restrictions. Jasper's father was finally able to get permission to enter the country on Monday, November 8, 2021, to make arrangements for his son's funeral.
When Carl Chan asked the family what the community can do to help the family, Jasper’s parents, Jihao Wu and Xiao Xiao (Cherry) An requested Oakland Chinatown Chamber Foundation to set up this GoFundMe to help them defray unexpected expenses. Please donate to support the Wu Family during this difficult time. 100% of the net proceeds will go to the family.
On behalf of the Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce and the Wu Family, Thank you in advance for your support.
