In memory of Jatinder Sian
In memory of Jatinder Sian
We first connected with Hampton Hill Cricket Club through our kids. We both have very fond memories of lazy sunday mornings, relaxing on a picnic blanket with a coffee and the sunday papers in one of the most beautiful parks in England, with 100 year old trees and wild deer roaming free, whilst our boys Arjan & Rudy were schooled in the sport of cricket.
It didn’t take long for Jatinder to want to be a bigger part of this wonderful club. He had always spoken very fondly of the coaches, parents and family members who had helped him when he was a boy. Giving up their weekends to coach cricket, ferrying kids from one cricket ground to another to play, cheering on from the boundary and preparing those amazing cricket teas (his mums samosas were a thing of legend in Drighlington, his home town in Leeds). Cricket was a big part of his childhood and he had very fond memories of playing with his family, his club and school.
He loved cricket. And he loved the ethos of Hampton Hill Cricket Club even more. It’s not about the winning. Its not about the star player. Its about taking part, being part of a team and encouraging each other.
As well as being one of the most enthusiastic parent supporters (raucous cheering from the Tavern stand), Jatinder was a coach for one of the junior teams as well as having served on the HHCC Committee. The parents of his age group will know how seriously he took his role as coach. Endless encouragement. Great feedback. And even giving tips and videos for the kids to practice their cricket skills during lockdown. He also made a huge impact on girls and ladies cricket at the club.
In his memory, I cannot think of a more fitting tribute than to support the club he loved so much, to ensure that cricket continues to bring people together and that the HHCC ethos can continue to flourish and provide joy and happiness for future generations.
Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to Jatinder.
