Support Jim Swan’s Family

Jim Swan, who died suddenly and unexpectedly following a medical event on November 4, was a scientist, a professor, a son, a brother, a thoughtful and intelligent voice in his community, and, as an obituary stated, “a delighted and devoted husband and father" to his wife Laura and 10-year-old son Henry. Jim made a positive impact on every community of which he was a part. His students and colleagues at MIT, where he had recently been awarded tenure as a Professor of Chemical Engineering, members of the multiple Arlington, MA FB groups where he was a spirited and consistent voice, and his son’s Hardy Elementary School community all benefitted from Jim’s presence. Among the many ways Jim made an impact in his neighborhood was the way he and Laura were spotted daily walking around town during the pandemic, picking up litter with a bucket and picker, making the world a bit of a brighter, cleaner place.
Laura and Henry are surrounded with love and support from the many people who cared for Jim and share in the deep sorrow of his sudden loss. Laura does not currently work outside the home, so contributing to this campaign is a way you can support her and Henry as they navigate these difficult days and begin to adjust to life without Jim. All money raised will go directly to Laura.
