In Memory of Johnny Rowe Sr.

It is with great sadness that I write these words.
A few days ago, my father passed away due to a number of complications.
For those of you that knew Johnny Rowe Sr., you know that he was a genuinely good and kind-hearted person. He would never hurt a soul and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. All of my life, I saw him do all he could to be there for those that he loved. He gave and gave of himself even when he didn’t have it to give.
He gave his time. He gave financially. He gave his positive energy. He gave life lessons. He gave his humor. He gave his love.
I received so much from him that I fear I will never be able to pay all of it forward, but I will try. I will try to be a fraction of the decent, honest, God-fearing, strong black man that he was.
I am asking any of you that knew him or that know me and my family to help us honor Johnny Rowe’s memory by helping to offset expenses in laying him to rest in lieu of sending gifts, cards, or flowers. If you choose to send those, however, Gatlin Mortuary is handling all of the final arrangements.
Whether you choose to donate or not, thank you for taking the time to read this and share in the memory of my amazing father. I will miss our conversations and time together. It just doesn’t seem like it was enough time. So, in parting, I ask you to spend more time with your loved ones, create more memories, and tell them often how much you appreciate them.
