In Memory of Karen Smith

On Wednesday, February 12th, Karen Smith passed away unexpectedly after a hiking accident while on vacation in Hawaii. Karen was a devoted mother, loving sister, caring aunt, dedicated colleague, and loyal friend. Karen leaves behind her adoring and amazing daughter, Tori (23), her faithful dog, Maggie (16), and her loving family.
Karen’s family and her friends at Boston University have established this GoFundMe page to help Tori with her mother’s passing and to honor Karen’s memory. Funds will be used to help Tori with her mother’s arrangements and costs to care for Maggie. In addition, a portion of the funds will be donated to China Adoption with Love, the adoption agency Karen used to adopt Tori when she was a baby.
Karen was loved by all she touched and had a profound impact on so many friends and colleagues. She was a phenomenal woman and was Tori’s best friend and biggest supporter. Anyone with pictures or memories they would like to share with Tori should email them to [email redacted]. This account will remain active and will provide an ongoing comfort for Tori and her family.
While the family plans a private memorial service at some later date, Boston University School of Public Health, Karen’s employer for the past decade and for which she was a dedicated and treasured employee, will host a public remembrance. The remembrance will take place on Monday, February 24th from 4:30pm-6:00pm at Hiebert Lounge (located on the 14th floor of Boston University School of Medicine, 72 East Concord Street, Boston).
