In Memory of Kevin Humes

Our hearts are broken. This past weekend Kevin was out with his friends in Atlanta for dinner and drinks. While on his walk home he was innocently targeted and killed in a senseless and random act of gun violence. Under normal circumstances Kevin would have called for an Uber but instead chose to walk given the current Covid pandemic. He was attacked less than a mile from his home. The individuals responsible for Kevin’s death have not yet been found.

Kevin was 35 years young and had so much life in front of him. He recently relocated to Atlanta last August after receiving a promotion with UPS, a company he had worked at for over 15 years. He was never the person to start trouble and was always looking to make friends wherever he went. This senseless and cowardice act occurred in a matter of seconds and yet, it will forever impact the people Kevin left behind and loved dearly.

Kevin was fun, genuine, caring and loved by so many people. Despite being hundreds of miles from his family, he talked with them every day. He loved to be out with friends watching sports and listening to live music. He had a playful spirit that came out when he would play with his nieces and nephews teaching them tricks that only uncles can. If given the chance he would have spent his weekend golfing and enjoying the outdoors.  

Kevin will be dearly missed by his parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and many, many friends. We have started this GoFundMe for two reasons: (1) assist Kevin’s family with the financial burden of bringing him home to Philadelphia and (2) increase the reward beyond the $10,000 currently set to find and convict the individuals responsible for his tragic death.
