Hey everyone, Dave Keenan here. I've been thinking about the best way to go about raising some money to help out some deserving families around Christmas time while also spreading some love in Mom's name. I came up with the idea to shave off my closest ally of 3 years, Henry, the beard. As many of you know, Mom passed away 11 years ago and on November 30th, she would've been 71 years young and she would be super happy if she heard I was shaving this beard off! haha! That's why I set the goal at $7100.
I want to raise money to spread around to a few families (preferably but not exclusively single mother/parent families) that may not be able to afford to provide new clothes, toys, sports equipment, musical instruments, etc to their kids. We were fortunate growing up. Mom worked so hard to make our childhood as good as she could. Her high school sweetheart, love of her life and our Dad died when I was 3 and we never went without anything and I know that not everyone is that fortunate.
I've lived in 3 places the majority of my life, Woodstock, NB, Victoria and Vancouver BC. Ideally, I'd like to surprise as many families as possible right before Christmas in these 3 places with gifts in Mom's name and memory. I'd like to encourage everyone that donates to offer suggestions and to nominate someone you think could benefit from this that is deserving and hard working. When I choose from all the nominees, I will get each family gift certificates from whatever store or business that best suits the needs of each of those families. They will be delivered, to their front door, a parcel with all the gift certifcates chosen for them and an explanation of what's going on and a list of your names that helped make it happen, unless, for some reason, you don't want your name included.
I hope this is a success and if it is, I'm thinking of doing the same type of thing every year. Please be as generous as you able to and remember that no amount is too small. I will also take photos of all that comes from this and account for every dollar that is donated so I can do this same type of thing next year.
I hope everybody has a safe and happy Christmas season or whatever holiday it may be that you and yours celebrate.
