In memory of Layal Abadi

The communities of Ann Arbor and Dearborn, Michigan are heartbroken by the sudden loss of Layal Abadi, a dedicated psychologist and single parent to four beloved children. Layal tragically passed away on Thursday, December 12 from an undiagnosed infection.

Layal graduated with her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Bowling Green State University and completed her internship training at the University of Michigan's Mary A Rackham Institute (MARI). After graduation, Layal stayed on in the Southeastern Michigan area where she raised her children and continued to serve the community as a therapist. In her therapy work, Layal had a passion for supporting people through recovery from trauma and for providing therapy that thoughtfully incorporated her client's culture and backgrounds. Layal approached her work and her life with a deep and heartfelt caring for others. Her death is a significant loss to the Southeastern Michigan community, to her clients, her colleagues and friends, and most of all, to her children. Layal will be remembered for her compassion and kindness and for improving the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.

This fundraiser is being organized by Jody Hoffman, a supervisor with Layal’s internship program and fellow BGSU alum. We aim to provide immediate financial support for Layal’s children during this unimaginably difficult time. The funds raised will also help cover costs associated with closing her private practice and addressing any outstanding personal or professional estate matters. Any unused funds from this campaign will be placed into a trust for her children’s future needs.

Layal’s work and dedication touched so many lives, and we hope to honor her memory by ensuring her children have the support they need not only now but into the future as well. Any contribution is deeply appreciated.
