As people knew, Marek is a big fighter, and I am so proud of how he fought like he's never fought before these last three months. Still, even with all his strength and hard work every day, he was told that another organ was failing and transplant was the only option, until that was quickly taken off the table due to the likelihood of survival.
Regardless in proper Marek form, he stubbornly decided it was time to go home and that they were being lazy, lol. He spent his birthday at home with Leo, Nicole, and some close friends but admitted defeat one and a half days later, returning to the hospital as it became apparent that perhaps the hospital was looking after him well while he was in there.
He decided to rest as he was very tired and in pain, and on the last day he got to do just that and rest, sleeping comfortably and even sharing the occasional smile when he opened his eyes for a second seeing me sitting with him holding his hand. It was comforting to see him be able to sleep for the first time in weeks. A few hours later, he peacefully passed in his sleep.
Marek wished to be cremated and kept with family and for some of his Ashes to be taken back to Olsztyn, Poland, where he grew up with Leo and Nicole for a few years, so they do end up going to experience life in his home town and meet family etc. This will be honoured in a few years when Leo will be old enough to appreciate it and learn from it.
Marek also didn't want to be mourned for his death and people crying for him, nor did he want people to feel sorry for him. So Nicole asks instead, we celebrate his life and remember and share the stories we all hold dear of Marek, If you don't hold a crazy, funny, loving memory of Marek, you must not of known the man. So we will celebrate his life and forever be blessed that we got to have him in ours at all.
So to be able to give Marek the send-off he deserves and his friends and family can honour his life, we are asking for any small amount you can spare and we will gratefully receive it to help pay for the funeral costs and this hard time for the family.
In this dark time, let’s come together as one community and raise as much funds as possible for his beautiful family.
